Candidature requirements

As part of the program’s active period, scientists and clinicians with innovative ideas in hemostasis and blood coagulation disorders were invited to submit applications. Submissions were welcomed from both individual investigators and collaborative teams conducting research in hospitals, universities, or independent institutions.

Applicants were required to submit an original research proposal focused on basic or clinical research in haemophilia or von Willebrand disease. Projects were expected to address disease pathology or management involving plasma-derived protein therapies in general, and were not linked to any specific commercial product.

Proposals had to present a well-defined research plan with objectives achievable within a 12-month timeframe. Applicants were required to be employed by, or formally affiliated with, a hospital, university, or independent research institution.

As part of the application process, participants submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI), which included: the curriculum vitae, a summary of the research protocol. Additionally, the applicant had to be under 40 years of age at the time of submission.

Appraisal criteria

Applications were assessed according to the following criteria:

Scientific merit

  • The validity of the rationale / proposed methodology
  • The validity of the expected outcomes
  • The validity of the proposed timelines
  • The feasibility of complotan the proposed work within 12 months

Innovation

  • Innovation in design, methodology and objectives

Clinical / medical impact

  • Contribution of the project results to clinical and scientific understanding
  • Relevance of the project to the haemophilia and von Willebrand disease community

Mentor and research environment

  • Mentor's research focus, clinical/scientific expertise and experience
  • Qualification of the applicant
  • Expertise in the academic research environment
